CALENDULA FLOWER

the Potted Marigold

Up until recently I had never heard of the Calendula Officinalis. Or so I thought. It’s more popular name is the potted Marigold, not to be confused with the common marigold. It is a genus of about 15-20 herbaceous plants. In warmer climates, it is a short-lived perennial. But when grown in plant beds or jars they can be an annual flower.

I ran across the Calendula while looking up herbal remedies for eye problems. Not only did I find what I was looking for, I found that the Calendula was a multi-use medicinal flower that could aid in the healing of many different ailments. This can be achieved by extracting it’s healing properties by infusing it into an oil, enjoying a hot cup of tea, as well as making it into a tincture. Calendula can be consumed as food and medicine so there are a host of other ways to get the benefits of this flower.
